LAKE PROFILE

Lawton Hall is a classic well matured estate lake extending to approximately ten acres. Much of the lake is surrounded by dense woodland and shrubs giving way to countless features from every swim. The lake offers secluded fishing from most pegs in a relaxed and tranquil environment.

The original dam end has depths averaging ten feet with the deepest area at approximately thirteen feet. Halfway up the lake the old dam wall reduces the depth, and from here up past the bay to the shallows, the lake averages approximately three to four feet deep.

After an extensive drain-down by the prior owners, the vast majority of underwater snags and obstacles which have hampered the lake for many years have now been removed, and with an ongoing programme of bankside management now in place by the new owners, the lake will see many improvements in the near future.

During the recent drain-down the prior owners were able to accurately record the numbers and weights of carp present in the lake. The lake currently holds twenty eight carp over 20lbs, with five of these being over 30lb. The largest carp was banked in November 2008 at a new lake record of 38lb 10oz.

The lake also boasts bream to 14lb 12oz, tench to over 9lb, and perch to 4lb. There is a good number of pike present, but as these have rarely been monitored or fished for, we are still trying to ascertain numbers and sizes. The new owners are already working on a sustained fishery management plan which will include the introduction of more quality English strain carp to the lake to back up existing stocks whilst also providing quality specimens for the future. It is also our intention to remove some of the bream.
